Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team advanced to 6-2 on the season with an 80-71 road victory over Roanoke College in the Pat Deacon Classic in Lexington, Kentucky on Monday evening.
MC trailed 20-18 at the ten-minute mark of the first half only to outscore the ODAC school 22-13 to take a 40-33 lead into the half. At the intermission Maryville out rebounded Roanoke 17-6 while shooting 50% from the field. Roanoke kept pace with a 58% shooting effort.
The second half featured MC's Lauren Trent going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and Mackenzie Puckett finishing at the basket going 11-for-18 from the field. Maryville forced 21 Roanoke turnovers while finishing on the boards with a 36-22 advantage.
Roanoke (2-6) was led by a trio of double-digit scorers. Paxton Gwinn deposited 27 points while leading Roanoke with 8 rebounds. Laurel Hankins added 13 points while Kelsey Smith tossed in 11.
Maryville (6-2) featured Puckett' double-double with a team-high 26 points and game-high 16 rebounds. Lauren Trent came off the bench to spark the perimeter attack with a dozen points while Lauren Burnet had another complete game with 11 points and five rebounds. Senior point guard Lailah Farmer added 11 points after going 6-for-8 from the free-throw line.
The Scots will take their two game win streak into the conclusion of the tournament when they challenge Midway College (KY) on Tuesday. Tip-off is slated for noon.
