Box Score The Maryville College Lady Scots took a road trip to Sewanee, Tennessee to challenge the University of the South on Saturday evening. MC 's defensive pressure limited the Tigers to a 21% shooting effort en route to a 67-33 non-conference victory.
Maryville outscored Sewanee 30-14 in the first half and cruised to the 34-point win after forcing 21 Tiger turnovers. The Scots shot 40% from the floor and 37% from beyond the arc.
Sewanee (4-4) was led by Kayla Sewell and Haley McDonough who each scored eight points. Sewell added an 11 rebound effort while MC out rebounded their host 43-32.
The Scots (5-2) were paced by Mackenzie Puckett's 15 points. Lauren Trent deposited four treys to finish with 13 points. Mindy Brackins, Danielle Newton, and Linley Dunn each tossed in eight points. Brackins led MC on the boards with nine rebounds. Point guard Lailah Farmer dished out six assists while collecting four steals on defense.
"We had a great team effort today," stated MC Head Coach Darin Travillian. "I was very pleased with our half court defense and discipline. We rebounded very well and contested every shot. Offensively, we were extremely balanced and unselfish."
The beginning of this season has been a challenging collection of road trips for the Scots. "Our focus now is on final exams and finishing up this incredible roadtrip in Lexington before we open our home and conference schedule in January," stated Travillian.
Maryville will now prepare for the Transylvania Classic on December 16-17 in Lexington, Kentucky.
