Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team, ranked No. 24 nationally, claimed their first regular season USA South Co-Championship with Ferrum and Christopher Newport following a 68-54 win over Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Sunday afternoon to conclude the 2013 regular season.
MC's Kiera Payne connected on 7-of-12 shots from the floor to pace the Scots with 18 points. The Chattanooga native also grabbed five rebounds. Fellow senior Janell Menard dropped 17 points while senior Tayler Smith finished her regular season career with a double-double after a 10 point, eleven rebound effort.
Maryville pulled away from the Monarchs (16-9, 11-7 USA South) after a 40-23 halftime lead with a 78% (14-for-18) shooting performance in the second half.
Maryville (22-3, 16-2 USA South) will prepare for their first USA South basketball tournament in Fayetteville, North Carolina this upcoming weekend. The Scots will be the No. 3 seed and challenge No. 6 LaGrane at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the Crown Center Arena in Fayetteville.
