Box Score The Maryville College Lady Scots earned their 10th win of the season with a 76-44 victory over Methodist University on Saturday afternoon in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The Scots' defense did not allow the Monarchs good looks from the perimeter and held their USA South foes to a 41% shooting effort while scoring only 24 first half points. Maryville was strong at the free-throw line going 8-for-10 in the first half to secure a 37-24 halftime advantage.
Coach Travillian's stifling defense continued in the second half allowing the Monarchs to hit only 25% of their shots while depositing only 20 points. The Scots forced 24 turnovers while hitting 47% of their shots to pull away for the key league win.
Methodist (7-2, 3-1 USA South) was led by Jackie Lyles' 11-point effort on 5-of-9 shooting. Ayanna Pegues and Maya Banks each added eight points while Jalisia Campbell finished with a game-high nine rebounds.
Maryville (10-3, 3-1 USA South) had a complete team effort to preserve the win. Mackenzie Puckett dropped 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting while she and Linley Dunn paced MC on the boards with six rebounds. Lauren Trent led all scorers with a trio of treys while going 5-for-10 from the field. The Knoxville native finished with a game-high 13 points. Lailah Farmer added ten points while seven additional Scots lit up the scoreboard.
The Scots will prepare for a mid-week USA South road test at Covenant College on Tuesday. Tip-off in Lookout Mountain, Georgia is slated for 5:30 p.m.
