Box Score The Maryville College Lady Scots basketball team earned their first USA South road victory of the season with a 75-40 victory over Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia on Tuesday evening.
MC senior Lauren Burnett led a perimeter attack that featured a dozen three-pointers, connecting at a 40% efficiency. Burnett connected on five treys finishing with a game-high 15 points. Mackenzie Puckett added 15 points on 50% shooting while leading the Scots with eight rebounds. Kelsey Brown was strong in the paint with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Lailah Farmer dished out six assists while Linley Dunn grabbed six boards.
While Maryville's offense hit at a 42% pace, their stingy defense allowed only a 25% shooting effort by the Georgian Scots. Covenant hit only 1-of-14 shots from beyond the arc and Maryville out rebounded the host 45-37.
Covenant (4-9, 104 USA South) was led by Jessie Blankenship's double-double performance of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Aleigha William added 10 points.
"We played very well defensively, and that jump started our transition game," stated MC Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "I was very pleased with our unselfishness offensively and our willingness to share the ball until we had good looks."
Maryville (11-3, 4-1 USA South) will now prepare to be on the road the remainder of January. This weekend they will travel to William Peace University on Friday and North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday for key USA South Athletic Conference challenges.
