Box Score Behind the strong perimeter attack of Lauren Burnett, Maryville College claimed their eighth consecutive victory with a 74-65 win over Piedmont College on Saturday afternoon in Maryville's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
Burnett, a senior guard from Maryville, connected on 7-of-8 three-pointers for a game high 21 points. Her Scots led 29-22 at the half, but kept the victory in sight with a 55% shooting effort in the second period. MC used a 6-for-8 effort from beyond the arc and 7-for-8 success rate at the charity stripe at the close of the game to preserve the victory. Maryville finished with 19 team assists while hitting 52% from long distance.
Piedmont (12-6, 6-3 USA South) was led by Carly Sales and Mary Kate Rushton. Each Lady Lion deposited 13 points on a combined 9-for-14 shooting. Lauren Hamel added 10 points with Symone recording a team-high six rebounds.
Maryville (16-3, 9-1 USA South) was led by Burnett's 21. Before fouling out, Mackenzie Puckett sank 6-of-9 shots for 15 points. Mindy Brackins stepped up in the post with 13 points and four rebounds. Senior point guard Lailah Farmer distributed eight assists while directing an offense that finished hitting 25-of-51 shots (49%). Jordan Ballard and Kelsey Brown helped MC bridge the rebounding gap with five boards each.
The Scots will prepare for a mid-week USA South Challenge as they host Covenant College on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
