Box Score The Maryville College Lady Scots used a shut down defense and a record 16 three-pointers to secure a key USA South victory over Covenant College by the score of 99-47 on Wednesday evening in Maryville's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
Maryville held the visiting Scots to a 36% shooting effort throughout the game while smothering Covenant's attack and forcing 25 turnovers on 17 steals. MC held a 42-21 halftime advantage and then exploded for a 60% shooting effort in the closing period to secure the 52-point victory.
Covenant (5-15, 2-10 USA South) did not have a player score in double digits. Alex Quimby hit a pair of treys en route to a nine point performance. Jessie Blankenship paced the Scots with six rebounds.
Maryville (17-3, 10-1 USA South) earned their ninth consecutive victory with every player on the roster scoring on the evening. Lauren Trent connected seven times from beyond the arc for a game-high 21 points. Mackenzie Puckett hit 50% of her shots while going 7-for-7 at the free throw line finishing with 19 points. Lauren Burnett hit four treys for a dozen points while Danielle Newton went 3-for-3 from the field for 11 points. Kelsey Brown added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds in the post. Jordan Ballard contributed six assists while Alex Bond and Lailah Farmer each dished out five assists for the Scots who finished shooting 54% from the field and 16-for-30 (53%) from long distance.
The Scots will now prepare for Saturday's challenge as they host USA South rival LaGrange College. MC will be celebrating "Play for Kay Day" with a Pink Out and will be accepting donations for the Kay Yow Foundation to support cancer awareness. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Maryville's Cooper Athletic Center.
