Box Score The No. 22 ranked Scots of Maryville College extended their winning streak to nine games with a convincing 86-51 victory over USA South foe Covenant College on Tuesday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The complete team effort featured a 31-assist effort from the Maryville offense on a 37-for-63 team shooting effort (59%) against the Georgian Scots. MC also lit it up from the perimeter connecting on 45% of their shots including a 7-for-13 effort in the second half.
Maryville's defense set the tone for a 37-21 halftime advantage. MC held Covenant to a 36% shooting effort. The hometown Scots pulled away with a 68% shooting effort (21-for-31) to close the game out.
Covenant (0-13, 0-5 USA South) was paced by Morgan Woodward's 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She also pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Abbey Bailey added 10 points on 50% shooting.
Maryville (11-1, 3-0 USA South) was led by Lauren Trent's 18 points on 6-of-12 three-point shooting. Mackenzie Puckett tossed in 14 after connecting on 6-of-8 shots while Alex Bond added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting while dishing out five assists. Joanna Young had a strong effort across the board with a game-high eight assists, six rebounds, and a pair of steals. Linley Dunn paced MC on the boards with a team-high seven rebounds as MC out rebounded Covenant 37-26. Rachel Hawn and Mindy Brackins each posted eight points and five boards to help the Scots pull away for the victory.
Maryville will prepare to host a pair of key USA South matchups this weekend. MC will host William Peace University at 7:30 p.m. on Friday following a 5:30 men's tip-off against the Pacers. The Scots will host North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday at 6:00. The Battling Bishop men will challenge the Fighting Scots at 4:00 before the women defend their national ranking and conference lead with a 6:00 scheduled tip-off.
