Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team extended their winning streak to seven games with a 69-52 USA South road victory over Averett University on Friday evening in Danville, Virginia.
A 25-25 first half was blown open with a 15-2 Fighting Scots run to send MC to the intermission with a 40-25 advantage. Maryville shot 53% at the break while their stingy defense held the Cougars to a 9-for-27 (33%) effort. The Scots unselfish effort continued on offense with 11-of-17 first half baskets coming off assists, five from Joanna Young.
Maryville's defense held Averett to 31% shooting throughout the game while out rebounding the Cougars 42-32 to extend their first half lead.
The Scots (8-1, 1-0 USA South) were led by Mackenzie Puckett's 21 point performance. The junior All-American was 9-for-12 (75%) from the field. Senior captain Alex Bond added 12 points on 50% shooting while sophomore Mindy Brackins was 5-for-8 (62%) from the floor for 13 points. Joanna Young had a complete game with 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 7 points, and a pair of steals.
MC will continue their USA South weekend road swing through Virginia with a stop in Ferrum, Virginia on Saturday. The Scots will challenge the Panthers in a key USA South match up with a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
