Box Score Maryville College's Mackenzie Puckett joined the 1,000-point club on Saturday afternoon, as the reigning USA South Player of the Year scored 19 points in a 73-50 win over Huntingdon College.
Coming into Saturday's conference game, the junior boasted 998 points. Puckett scored her 1,000th career point at the 14:00 mark, collecting an offensive rebound and finding the lay-up for an 8-4 Maryville College lead.
Puckett led all scorers in the game with her 19, while pulling down six rebounds to go with four assists, two steals and a 50-percent shooting performance.
Maryville's 23-point victory puts the Scots at 23-2 on the season, while boasting a 15-1 conference record. The squad goes into the USA South Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 26, as the No. 1 seed and tournament hosts. MC will tipoff at 8 p.m.
The Scots shot 50 percent on the evening against the Hawks, taking a 36-22 lead to the locker room. The squad posted a 43.8 percent outing from beyond the arc, knocking down 7-of-16 treys behind Mindy Brackins' four.
Brackins followed Puckett's 19-point effort with 14 of her own. Alex Bond had 13 points to go with three assists, while Rachel Hawn posted a near double-double 10 points and nine rebounds.
Jordan Ballard had seven points to go with four rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Joanna Young and Linley Dunn each added four points. Kelsey Brown had two points for Maryville.
Huntingdon was led by Pat Pickens' 14-point, six-rebound day, while Mackenzie Garmany had 12 points. Tan Munford had 11 rebounds while becoming Huntingdon's all-time rebound leader in school history.
The Hawks shot 31.5 percent, going 17-of-54, while shooting 4-of-17 from beyond the arc. They fall to 13-12 on the season, while going 7-9 in the USA South Athletic Conference.
Maryville is now set to host the conference tournament, which will tipoff inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.
