Box Score Maryville College swept the Battle of the Scots, as MC's women's basketball escaped Lookout Mountain, Ga. with a convincing 57-39 victory over Covenant College.
The Scots used a forceful game, posting 10 blocks in the contest. Mackenzie Puckett led the team with three blocks, while Lauren Biliter and Linley Dunn each contributed two blocks each.
Facing the fourth game in 10 days, Darrin Travillian spread the wealth around in the 14-point USA South win. Every player saw the court, as 10 Scots got into the scoring action.
Maryville shot 35.8 percent from the floor, bucketing 24-of-67 shots. They tallied five treys on the evening, while Covenant College could only muster a 20.8 percent day.
The No. 17 nationally ranked Scots outrebounded their southern counterparts, 51-38, while converting 13 second-chance points.
Maryville was led by Mindy Brackins' nine-point outing, while Rachel Hawn tallied eight points and eight rebounds.
Alex Bond, Dunn, Puckett, Jordan Ballard and Lauren Trent each totaled six points, while Joanna Young tossed in five. Haley Talbott contributed three, while Kelsy Brown scored two.
Bond led Maryville with five assists, while Puckett totaled a game-high three blocks.
For Covenant (2-19, 2-11 USAS), it was Aleigha Williams that posted 11 points for the Scots. Jessica Bell tallied nine points, while Abbey Bailey led Covenant with eight rebounds.
Maryville (18-2, 10-1) will travel to LaGrange College on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tipoff. The Scots and the Panthers currently lead the Southern Division – each with one loss.
