Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team completed a sweep of their weekend USA South road challenges with a 70-43 victory over LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon in LaGrange, Georgia.
The Scots defense did not allow more than a dozen points in any of the Panther's four quarters while MC deposited 43-percent of their shots from the floor (23-for-54). LaGrange could not find their perimeter game (1-for-7 from beyond the arc) but the Scots knocked down eight treys to pull away.
Kelsey Walthall was the only Panther to post double digits with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting. The loss moves LaGrange to 15-8 on the season and 9-5 in USA South play.
"I'm very pleased with our effort today," stated Maryville College Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "We defended really well, executed offensively, and had contributions up and down our roster. Day two of these back-to-back league challenges is brutal, but our kids responded with energy and enthusiasm."
The Scots (19-3, 12-1 USA South) had four players contribute double-digit scoring. Mackenzie Puckett went 5-for-8 from the floor while also sinking seven free-throws for a game-high 17 points. Madison Maples dropped 4-of-9 from beyond the arc for 12 points. Senior guard Jordan Ballard dished out six assists while sinking 11 points. Allyson Freiermuth was strong in the post with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Joanna Young and Rachel Hawn paced MC on the boards with five rebounds each.
Maryville will conclude their 2016 home schedule on Wednesday, February 17th when they host Piedmont College for "Senior Day". A 5:30 p.m. tip-off will be proceeded by a celebration of the careers of Mackenzie Puckett, Joanna Young, Linley Dunn, and Jordan Ballard.
