Box Score The Maryville College Scots stayed perfect within the USA South Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon, as they downed conference foe LaGrange College, 63-58.
The Scots' post play again reigned supreme, as MC saw another post player finish with a double-double. Rachel Hawn had 12 points and 11 rebounds to mark the fourth double-double in as many games for a Maryville College forward.
The Scots move to 12-3 on the season, as they hold a 4-0 mark in the USA South.
Maryville overcame a deficit at the half, 27-25, as the scored 38 second-half points. MC had a 45-34 lead after the third quarter, but 24 fourth-quarter points by the Panthers cut Maryville's lead to only two at one point.
Hawn led the way with her double-double effort, while she added two steals and an assist. Of Hawn's 11 rebounds, eight of those came on the offensive side to lead Maryville who had 20 offensive boards.
Haley Talbott had 11 points, two rebounds and three assists for the Scots, while Amber Hudgens neared a double-double with 10 rebounds, nine points, two blocks and an assist. Allyson Freiermuth had nine points and five boards, while Lauren Biliter had nine points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Madison Maples had six points, while Libby Gardner had four points. Gardner tallied a team-high five assists for Maryville, while Brittany Johnson had three points.
The Scots shot 24-of-64 (37.5 percent), while bucketing eight treys. Maryville out-rebounded LaGrange, 47-43, while scoring 17 second-chance points on 20 offensive boards. MC also took control with 17 points off 14 Panther turnovers.
For LaGrange (7-7, 3-2 USA South), it was Lauren Johnson who had 16 points. Kelsey Walthall had 13 points and six boards, while Kymberli Payno led the Panthers with eight rebounds.
Maryville returns home on Wednesday night, Jan. 18, as they host a make-up game against Salem College. The USA South matchup is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
