Box Score Maryville College women's basketball extended their winning streak to 10 with a 70-58 victory over USA South foe Huntingdon College on Saturday evening in MC's Cooper Athletic Center.
After a 16-12 first quarter advantage, Maryville used a 70% shooting effort inside the arc to out- score the Hawks 22-12 in the second quarter. MC's defense allowed only a 31% shooting effort from the visitors.
The Scots cruised through the second half finishing with a 40% effort from the floor (23-for-57) for the game. MC was tough on the boards out-rebounding the Hawks 46-34 for the game.
MC's Allyson Freiermuth recorded a double-double with 17 points and a career-high of 19 rebounds to pace the Scots. Lauren Biliter equaled Freiermuth's 6-for-10 effort from the floor for 17 points of her own while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists. With a trio of treys, Haley Talbott deposited a dozen. Rachel Hawn had a strong effort in the paint with nine points and six boards.
Huntingdon (14-5, 6-3 USA South) was paced by Juliette Harp's 22-point effort on 9-of-14 shooting. Jello Weatherspoon added 18 points on 5-for-19 shooting. T.I. Duncan battled on the boards pulling down a team-high nine rebounds.
Maryville (17-3, 9-0 USA South) remain atop the USA South western division standings with the key league win. The Scots will travel to Covenant College next Tuesday for a 7:30 tip-off before returning home next Friday and Saturday to conclude their USA South home schedule. On Friday, Maryville will host a Play for Kay Day against Agnes Scott before honoring their three senior on "Senior Day" Saturday against Wesleyan College.
