Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team extended their present winning streak to eleven games with a 74-47 victory over Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia on Tuesday evening.
The Scots' Rachel Hawn exploded for 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting in the post while also sinking 4-of-5 free-throws. The junior from Franklin, Tenn. also tallied a game-high seven rebounds for a complete evening.
Maryville pulled away in the second quarter behind a 57% team shooting effort paced by Madison Maples' seven points. The USA South western division leading Scots held their hosts to only a 20% shooting effort just before the half, including a 1-for-5 success rate from long distance.
The Scots expanded their advantage in the third quarter with a 60% effort (6-for-10) from the field led by Hawn's perfect 5-for-5 shooting for 11 points. Covenant kept digging a hole with a 16% shooting rate from the field (2-for-12) while continuing to get out rebounded.
Covenant College (8-11, 2-7 USA South) finished with a collective 31% shooting evening (18-for-57). The Scots were paced by Joana Smith's team-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Maryville College (18-3, 10-0 USA South) had three players post double-digit scoring. Hawn's 16 led all scorers while Madison Maples finished 5-for-9 with a pair of three-pointers for a dozen points. Allyson Freiermuth was strong on the boards with six boards. Lauren Biliter posted a complete effort with 11 points, five rebounds, and four steals. MC collectively deposited 57% of their shots from the floor and 81% (13-for-16) from the charity stripe.
The Scots will now prepare for USA South foes Agnes Scott and Wesleyan (Ga.) this weekend. On Friday, MC will host a "Play for Kay Day" against the Scotties. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the Cooper Athletic Center. On Saturday, Maryville will honor their three seniors before the 4:00 p.m. tip against Wesleyan College.
