Complete team effort lifts Scots past Brevard 92-75

Box Score

The Maryville College women's basketball team earned their first victory of the season with a 92-75 win over Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina on Wednesday evening.

The Tornados, a new member to the USA South Athletic Conference, jumped out to an early 12-point advantage on the Scots as Annalee Bollinger dropped a trio of three-pointers to give Brevard a 22-18 first quarter lead.

Behind Elsa Eckenrod and Rachel Hawn, Maryville battled back to gain a 42-39 advantage at the half. Bollinger finished the half 7-of-13 from beyond the arc for 23 points, but Maryville countered with a balanced attack that featured 12 from Eckenrod, eight from Hawn, and six from Maples. Hawn pulled down six boards while Amber Hudgens tallied 11 rebounds. The Scots outrebounded Brevard 28-11 at the break.

The third quarter featured a 9-1 run by the Scots to establish a 63-52 lead before Haley Talbott dropped a three-pointer to close the stanza giving the Scots a 12-point lead (66-54).

Head Coach Darrin Travillian put senior Lauren Biliter on the talented Bollinger in the second half and Biliter limited Bollinger to only four second-half points. The stingy defense and Maryville taking advantage of their free throw opportunities (29-of-33) helped MC cruise in the final period.

Brevard (0-3) was paced by Annalee Bollinger's 27 points on 9-of-21 shooting. She was 8-of-15 from long distance. Jade Napier added a dozen points while Whitney DeMoss posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kelsie Rhyne tossed in 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting.

Maryville (1-4) was led by Rachel Hawn's double-double in the post. The senior deposited 21 points on 10-of-19 shooting while hauling down 10 rebounds. Madison Maples was strong from the perimeter tossing in 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting that included a 4-of-7 effort from downtown. Haley Talbott sank four treys for 14 points while Elsa Eckenrod came off the bench to contribute 12 points. Libby Gardner dished out a game-high seven assists while adding 10 points. Amber Hudgens was strong on the boards finishing with a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Scots will travel this weekend to Memphis, Tennessee to challenge Rhodes College and Hendrix College at the Rhodes College Classic.
