Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team snapped Huntingdon College's 12-game home winning streak in Roland Arena with a 73-62 road win on Saturday afternoon.
Maryville's Madison Maples exploded for a game-high 28 points on 10-of-22 shooting while finding her range with a 5-for-10 effort from beyond the arc.
Coach Darrin Travillian's squad used seven points from Maples and six points from Rachel Hawn in the paint to dash out to a 23-12 first quarter advantage. MC finished the opening quarter 11-for-19 from the floor.
Maples dropped a pair of treys in the second quarter with the Scots finishing 50% from the floor and three-point range. Huntingdon countered MC's consistency with a 6-for-15 effort from the floor.
Maryville went to the half with a 40-30 lead.
The Scots' duo of Maples and Hawn deposited eight and four points respectively on a combined 6-of-11 shooting to allow MC to pull away 56-44 by the end of the third quarter.
Maples completed her 28-point display with seven points in the final period. The senior guard went 2-for-5 from the floor and 3-for-5 from the charity stripe. Lauren Biliter closed the game out strong with six points on 2-of-5 shooting to end the game.
Huntingdon (11-6, 4-3 USA South) was paced by Juliette Harp's 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Harp completed a double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds. Hannah Parks tossed in nine points while T.I. Duncan added nine points off the bench.
Maryville (11-7, 7-1 USA South) was led by a complete game effort from Maples and Hawn. Maples added six rebounds, five assists, and a pair of steals to her 28-point outburst. Hawn was dominant in the post with a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Hawn finished 8-for-13 from the floor while grabbing four offensive boards. Lauren Biliter finished 5-of-9 from the floor for 12 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Amber Hudgens came off the bench to add six points and five rebounds.
The Maryville College women will prepare for a trip to USA South rival, Covenant College on next Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
The Scots will return to the Cooper Athletic Center next Friday to host USA South foe Wesleyan College at 7:30 p.m.
