Scots end regular season with 63-49 win over Agnes Scott

Maryville College closed out the 2017-18 regular season on a high note Friday night, as the Scots toppled the Scotties, 63-49.

The Scots finish the season with a 16-9 record, while boasting an 11-3 mark in USA South play. Maryville enters the USA South Tournament as the Western Division's third-ranked team.

Maryville will host the opening game on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

A back-and-forth first quarter found the two teams knotted at 9-all with 4:37 left. The Scots would use an 11-1 run through the remainder of the quarter without allowing an Agnes Scott field goal.

The would take a 20-10 advantage to the second, extending it to a 15-1 rally before the Scotties broke the 6:26 silence with a lay-in by Anna Weimerskirch.

Maryville would continue to put together buckets, making the run 23-4 for a 32-13 lead with just under four minutes left. The Scot would ride that for a 39-24 lead at the break.

Agnes Scott would cut it to 12 with 2:30 remaining in the third, but Maryville would again find a key rally. Over the next three minutes, the Scots would outscore the Scotties, 9-0, for a 21-point lead, 55-34.

An 11-1 Agnes Scot run would cut into Maryville's lead, before the Scots would outlast them for a 63-49 victory.

Maryville was led by Madison Maples' 16 points and four rebounds, while Rachel Hawn added a double-double 12 points and 11 boards. She added four steals and three assists for a complete game. Lauren Biliter had seven points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal for Maryville, as Elsa Eckenrod tallied seven points off the bench.

Haley Talbots had six points, as Amber Huygens tallied five points, three rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Holland Jerrolds and Kelley Wandell each had four points, while Libby Gardner had three assists, two points, two steals and a rebound.

The Scots shot 38.3 percent (23-of-60) while connecting on five treys. They went 12-of-18 at the charity stripe, while out rebounding the Scotties, 38-30. MC had 17 assists on their 23 made baskets.

Agnes Scott (3-20, 2-10 USA South) saw Garis Grant finish with 13 points and nine rebounds. Natasha Banks had nine points, five rebounds and four assists for the Scotties.
