Strong defensive effort, 26 points from Varney lift Scots over Agnes Scott 77-48

A strong defensive effort and a 26-point performance by Klaire Varney helped the Maryville College Scots defeat Agnes Scott College by the score of 77-48 on Saturday afternoon in Decatur, Georgia.

 

Maryville held their USA South Athletic Conference hosts to only a 29% shooting effort (17-for-57) throughout the challenge. MC forced 27 Scottie turnovers converting those miscues into 29 points. Offensively, Maryville played unselfishly posting 23 assists on 31 total baskets. MC shot 46% from the floor (31-for-67) while connecting on 36% of their attempts beyond the arc. The Scots dominated inside with 40 points within the paint during the key league road victory.

 

Agnes Scott (0-13, 0-4 USA South) was paced by Garis Grant's double-double performance of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Kalin Smith added 10 points while Emma Olson tossed in nine points.

 

Maryville (5-8, 3-1 USA South) saw Klaire Varney go 10-for-14 from the floor including a trio of three-pointers for a game-high 26 points. Elsa Eckenrod posted nine points and a game-high 11 boards along with six assists while Erin Beasley and Delaney Lowery each contributed eight points.

 

The Scots will continue their USA South travels this weekend towards Montgomery, Alabama. MC will challenge Huntingdon College on Sunday with a 4:00 EST scheduled tip-off.
