Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball squad utilized contributions throughout their roster to remain undefeated with an 87-54 win over Covenant College in MC's Cooper Athletic Center on Friday evening.
Sophomore guard Courtney Carruthers finished with 25 points off the bench following an 8-for-17 shooting effort that included six three-pointers. Senior guard Elsa Eckenrod posted 19 points after going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Freshman Meredith Ward tallied her first collegiate double-digit scoring effort after going 5-for-5 from the floor for 12 points. Fellow rookie Jordan Heifner recorded a complete-game scoreline with seven points, a team-high six assists, and seven rebounds. Senior Shelby Hix added six points and a game-high nine rebounds. Kelley Wandell moved seven rebounds closer to the 500-career rebound plateau. She is eight boards shy from the historic milestone. Freshman Hannah Seals recorded five assists and three steals to cap off the complete team effort.
Covenant (1-12, 0-5 USA South) was held to a 31-percent shooting effort by MC's relentless defense. Cosette Kirsch paced the Georgian Scots with 15 points while Ruthie Moore added 10 points and six rebounds. Mary Elaine Mitchell paced Covenant on the boards with seven rebounds.
Maryville (3-0, 3-0 USA South) finished with 20 team assists while shooting 46-percent from the floor. The Scots found their perimeter attack going 15-for-28 from long distance.
"I'm very proud of the contributions throughout our roster, not only in points, but in rebounds and assists," stated MC Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "I am proud of this team and their collective focus on defending and being unselfish."
Maryville will host Covenant for another USA South challenge on Saturday with a noon schedule tip-off in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
