Box Score The No.15 ranked Maryville College Scots rolled to their eighth consecutive victory with a 78-50 win over Brevard College on Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.
The Scots took a 48-23 lead into the half with Shelby Hix and Courtney Carruthers combining for 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting in the first quarter. MC shot 67-percent in the first period with 11 assists on 12 baskets. Maryville pulled away hitting 53-percent in the second period distributing five assists on eight baskets just before the intermission.
MC cooled off a bit in the second half but still connected on 9-of-20 shots to secure the victory. The Scots pressure defense allowed the Tornados only a 28-percent shooting effort from the floor including an 18-percent effort from beyond the arc.
Brevard (1-4, 1-4 USA South) was led by Deja Riddick's 15 points on 7-of 14 shooting.
Maryville (8-0, 8-0 USA South) was paced by Courtney Carruthers' 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Shelby Hix dished out five assists while dropping 13 points. Jordan Heifner posted 13 points, seven boards, and four assists. Kelley Wandell turned away a pair of shots while sinking 4-of-5 shots for 11 points. Hannah Seals posted six assists while recording four steals. Hannah Jones was 4-for-4 from the floor for nine points while Holland Jerrolds went 3-for-3 from the floor for six points.
"We finished a solid road trip. I was particularly happy with our defensive effort throughout this trip," stated Maryville College Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "Obviously, we shared the ball really well again today and finished buckets inside of three. This team continues to improve and work hard every time we step on the floor."
Maryville will return to action Thursday, February 18 when they travel to LaGrange, Georgia to challenge LaGrange College. They will return to the Cooper Athletic Center to host the Panthers on Saturday, February 20.
