FERRUM, Va. - The Scots picked up their first win of the season on Sunday night, defeating Ferrum 57-45 on Day 2 of the Ferrum Classic.

After a loss in their season opener, Maryville bounced back against the Panthers to record an impressive victory on the road.

Three Scots put up double-digit points in the contest, led by 19 from
Courtney Carruthers.
Ella Haney and
Courtney Farr followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Ferrum scored first on a made free throw from Aisha Martin, but the Scots took control from there, going on a 9-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from Farr.

By the end of the first half, Maryville had taken a 31-19 lead. The Scots shot 10-for-33 in the first twenty minutes of play and recorded nine offensive rebounds, scoring 10 second-chance points.

The second half was even with each team scoring 26 points in the final 20 minutes of play. The Panthers outscored MC 16-10 in the third quarter, but Maryville would come back in the fourth, scoring 13 while holding Ferrum to 10.

The Scots' defense was strong, picking up seven steals and causing 25 turnovers. Haney led the squad with five steals, followed by
Hailey Cronk and
Emma Huskey with two apiece.

The Scots play again next Tuesday when they travel to Danville, Kentucky, for a matchup against Centre. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
