SEWANEE – Macy Lindsey capped a strong opening weekend and
Anabelle Procter did the same to lift Maryville to a 2-1 victory against Mount St. Joseph at the Sewanee Fall Classic.
The Scots (2-0-0) trailed 1-0 at halftime but the first-year Procter erased that deficit just 58 seconds into the second half. Procter's first collegiate goal was assisted by
Sierra Lee.
Then Procter was in on the game-winner as well, assisting Lindsey's game-winner in the 85th minute. Lindsey had the assist (originally credited to
Hailey Cartt) in Saturday's 1-0 victory against Adrian.
"To go there and get two wins playing back-to-back in less than 24 hours a tournament with a really young team says a lot," Maryville head coach
Pepe Fernandez said. "The thing I like about this group is they just did not back down at all and played without any fear as a group.
"It's a tough environment over there and today was played in driving rain. To get two wins against teams that typically go to the NCAA tournament, scoring our goals in the second half as we did, speaks to our leadership."
Mount St. Joseph (0-2-0) took the lead on a Renee Padavick goal in the 10th minute. Maryville outshot MSJ 19-8, including an 11-3 edge in the second half.
Sophie Turner allowed just the one goal to get the win and improve to 2-0.
