JACKSON, Miss. – Delaney Muldoon found the back of the net in the 82nd minute securing a 1-0 victory over Belhaven to leapfrog into first place in the Collegiate Conference of the South.
With the victory, Maryville now sits at 5-0-1 in the CCS while the Blazers are 6-1 in conference play. As long as the Scots do not suffer a loss in their final two remaining games conference games (Wednesday vs. Piedmont, and Saturday Oct. 21 vs. Agnes Scott), they will maintain first place and be set to host all the way through the CCS Championship game.
Until Muldoon's goal late in the second half, neither squad was able to gain much momentum. In the first half Belhaven outshot the Scots 6-3 while in the final 45 minutes MC held the shot advantage 5-3.
Annabelle Procter led the Scots with three shots, two of which were on goal.
Goalkeeper
Sophie Turner recorded just one save on the day but that was enough as she recorded the 25th win of her collegiate career. Across four seasons she is 25-12-9 as the goalie of record.
Maryville is back in action Wednesday with a CCS matchup against Piedmont at the MC Soccer Complex. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
