MC Plays to 0-0 Draw at Asbury

Alcaraz Shuts Out Eagles on Four Saves

WILMORE, Ky. – Christian Alcaraz and the Maryville defense held future Collegiate Conference of the South member Asbury to a scoreless draw in Monday night men's soccer.

This was the first competition played by the Scots against Asbury since the Eagles were announced as a new league member beginning in fall 2024. They are taking the place of Berea, which departs after this academic year for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Alcaraz in his second start of the season – and of his Maryville tenure – completed his second clean sheet as the Scots held Asbury to 11 shots but only four on target. Alcarez is now 1-0-1 for his brief career.

Maryville fired seven shots, including three on target. First-year forward Hyatt McDonald put two on goal and Hayden Tate had the other one on target for Maryville. Caleb Platillero got off two shots.

Fouls in the match were 10-10, and corner kicks were 3-3. Asbury finished with a 58-to-42 percentage edge in ball possession, but Maryville's defense held firm in front of Alcarez.

The Scots moved to 5-5-5 overall, while Asbury is now 7-2-4. Maryville is back in action Wednesday at home for another nonconference matchup, this time against Birmingham-Southern. Start time is 5 p.m.

Saturday for Homecoming and Senior Day, the Scots host Huntingdon at 4 p.m. in their final regular season match. Maryville currently resides in fourth place in the CCS at 2-2-1, but a victory could boost the Scots to as high as second depending on other outcomes.
