MARYVILLE – Maryville is moving on to the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship semifinals after defeating Agnes Scott 8-0 here at the MC Soccer Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Scots added another commanding victory to their resume, outshooting the Scotties 41-2 on route to their big victory. 20 of their 41 shots were on goal. MC also held the advantage in corner kicks with a 7-1 margin.
Hannah Smoot kicked off the Scots scoring with a goal in the 20th minute to put the Scots up 1-0 in the first half.
Sierra Lee and
Avery Brown recorded assists on the goal. Lee picked up a career-high three assists in the contest.
Smoot scored the first goal of the game, and she also scored the final goal of the game. In the 82nd minute, she fielded a pass from
Ellie Schuld and fired it into the back of the net for her 11th goal of the season.
Sadie Phelan also hit pay dirt twice in the contest, scoring a goal in the 36th minute and then again in the 73rd.
Katie O'Brien Dished out the assist on the first goal while Lee recorded her second of the game on the second goal.
On top of the braces by Smoot and Phelan, Schuld,
Katie Corley,
Hailey Cartt and
Grace McDonald all scored in the match.
Schuld's goal came in the 39th minute following an assist from
Anne Marie Konieczny while Corley and Cartt scored back-to-back goals in the 51st and 52nd minutes. O'Brien picked up her second assist of the game on the goal by Corley.
McDonald's goal in the 73rd minute marked her first of the 2023 season. The junior from Athens, Tennessee found the net after
Meghan Kimbirl blew past the defense on the right side, passing the ball to Lee in the middle who then tapped it to McDonald for the 10-yard strike.
Moving on, Maryville will play host to Piedmont in the quarterfinal round of the CCS Championship on Wednesday at the MC Soccer Complex.
