Maryville Wins Big Against Huntingdon

Seven Scots Score at Least One Goal Against CCS Foe

MARYVILLE – Maryville put on a show Saturday night, defeating CCS foe Huntingdon 8-1 at the MC Soccer Complex. The Scots are now 7-2-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the Collegiate Conference of the South.

MC is 3-1 over its last four matches and has outscored opponents by a combined score of 23-3. Since Sept. 24, the Scots have defeated LaGrange 7-0, Wesleyan 8-0, and now Huntingdon 8-1.

Delaney Muldoon

Sierra Lee got things rolling for the Scots, scoring the match's first goal in the 27th minute. She was assisted by Annabelle Procter. Lee would find the back of the net again, this time in the 66th minute. Macy Lindsey recorded the assist on that goal.

Lee now leads the Scots with seven goals this season, one more than her teammate Hannah Smoot, who has six.

In the 33rd minute, Maryville was attacking near the Huntingdon goal when the Scots crossed the ball into the box. Instead of connecting with a teammate, the MC pass bounced off the body of a Huntingdon player and dribbled into the net for an own goal to put MC up 2-0.

The Scots scored one more goal in the first half, this time from Macy Lindsey. This was Lindsey's first goal of the season. Hailey Cartt picked up an assist on the play.

In the second half, Procter opened the scoring with a goal in the 61st minute, her fifth of the season to make it 4-0. Delaney Muldoon picked up the assist on the goal.

Annabelle Procter

After Lee's 66th minute goal, Anne Marie Konieczny scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 71st minute to put MC up 6-0.

Huntingdon would get on the board in the 81st minute, with Anaely Almeida scoring to make it 6-1.

Konieczny wasn't the only first-time goal scorer for Maryville, as first-year forward Ellie Schuld picked up her first on a penalty kick in the 88th minute.

Just 25 seconds later, Sadie Phelan would wrap up the Maryville barrage with her third goal of the season to put the Scots ahead 8-1.

MC outshot the Hawks 32-3 and held the advantage in corner kicks 7-0. Lee led the way with seven shots while Procter was right behind with six of her own.

The Scots continue their busy schedule with a match on the road against Berea on Tuesday. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
