That's about the only way to defeat these Scots early on as Maryville and Guilford played to a scoreless draw that was halted after 70 minutes due to thunderstorms. The match was the final piece of the Bradford Classic, hosted by Piedmont.
Maryville went 1-0-1 for the Classic and 1-0-2 for the week, with a pair of scoreless draws sandwiched around a 7-1 thumping of Meredith on Friday.
In Sunday's match, the Scots did everything but score against the unbeaten Quakers. Maryville held a 14-3 edge in shots, including a 12-1 margin in the opening 45 minutes. Corners favored Guilford 5-3, and fouls were 7-6 Maryville.
Sierra Lee attempted six shots for the Scots, including three on target. Her header in the 23rd minute forced a fine save by Guilford's Ady Franklin, one of four saves Franklin made in the match.
Hannah Smoot added three shots and
Anabelle Procter and
Delaney Muldoon two apiece.
Sophie Turner made one save for Maryville in her 70-plus minutes.
Maryville stands at 3-0-2 for the season, with Guilford now 2-0-1.
The Scots host Berry (2-2-0) in their home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m.
