Scots Take Down Huntingdon on the Road

Carruthers Scores 19 in Victory Over Hawks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Maryville got back in the win column Friday night with a victory over Huntingdon 58-50 at the Catherine Roland Dixon Arena. The Scots are now even at 2-2 in CCS play and 4-8 overall.
 
Maryville dominated the Hawks for most of the game. Huntingdon scored first but MC took the lead with 6:03 seconds remaining in the quarter and never relinquished it.
 
The Scots' largest lead of the night came with 4:41 remaining in the third quarter when Kadence Stoner hit a jump shot to put the Scots ahead by 17 at 44-27.

Huntingdon fought back in the fourth quarter though, outscoring the Scots 19-13 in the final 10 minutes of play.
 
With just 2:00 remaining in the game, the Hawks trailed by just three points after a jumper from Briana Stuckey. MC was able to hold on though, scoring four straight points to extend their lead to 58-50 where it would remain through the end of the contest.
 
Maryville was led on offense by Courtney Carruthers who scored a team-high 19 points in the contest. Carruthers has now scored at least 10 points in five straight matchups against Huntingdon. The Scots are 6-1 vs. the Hawks during her career at MC.
 
Behind Carruthers was Emily Allen who finished the game with 11 points while also recording a team-high and season-best eight rebounds.

Emma Huskey was the final double-digit scorer for the Scots, picking up 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.
 
As a team, Maryville shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the field, its second-best percentage of the season, only behind the 44.2 percent (23-of-52) performance against Centre in December.
 
The Scots also held a wide margin in rebounding as well, pulling down 39 boards compared to the Hawks' 26.
 
Maryville continues its weekend road trip with a matchup against LaGrange on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
