Late-Season Rush Continues in 2-1 Victory

DEMOREST, Ga. – Maryville kept its late-season vibes grooving with a 2-1 come-from-behind win Friday afternoon at Piedmont.

Craig McIlwraith scored the game-winner in the 86th minute off an assist from Brady Hammer. McIlwraith assisted Will Gallaher's goal in the 60th minute that knotted the score after Piedmont had taken the lead just three minutes earlier.

McIlwraith's goal was his fourth of the season and second in as many matches. The senior has 14 goals for his career to go with 19 assists. Gallaher's goal was his first of the season and second career.

The road triumph hands the Scots home-field advantage for Wednesday night's Collegiate Conference of the South Men's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal-round matchup against an opponent to be determined. Maryville will host either Piedmont or LaGrange.

3-1-1 Over Last Five
Maryville has gotten hot at the right time, going 3-1-1 over its final five CCS matches. Friday's win was MC's fifth in a row against the Lions and the seventh victory in the last eight meetings. The Scots lead this series since 2003 by a 28-9-1 count and are 21-2-1 against Piedmont since 2008.

Shots favored Piedmont 17-13, with McIlwraith taking four and putting them all on target. Brooklyn Muccillo attempted three shots for Maryville. Corner kicks were 3-3 and offsides 2-2.

Christian Alcaraz earned the win for Maryville in goal, making five saves and improving to 6-6-2.
