Scots Halted by No. 24 Catholic

Back in Action Dec. 29-30 at Roanoke Tourney

WASHINGTON – Maryville wrapped up its stay at the Jamie Lynn Roberts Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Classic on Tuesday with a 74-33 loss to host Catholic.
 
The No. 24-ranked Cardinals limited the Scots to just seven points in each of the final three periods after Maryville had played the first quarter to a 19-12 deficit. It was 32-19 at intermission before Catholic outscored the Scots 42-14 in the second half.
 
Ella Haney and Olivia Cathers were the scoring leaders for Maryville with eight points apiece. Kadence Stoner grabbed six boards to lead the team's rebounding total. Haney earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
 
Catholic All-American Anna Scoblick was the tourney MVP after scoring 19 points against the Scots to go with seven rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots. Scoblick over the two games for the Cardinals averaged 18.5 points, six rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and one steal.
 
Cathers and Ella Tharpe contributed three steals apiece for the visitors, with Tharpe playing for more than 30 minutes and committing just one turnover. The Scots dropped to 0-6 for the season, while Catholic improved to 8-1.
 
Maryville is back in action Dec. 29-30 at the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic, hosted by Roanoke. The Scots take on the host Maroons on Day 1 and then face Ferrum on Day 2.
