COLUMBIA, S.C. – Maryville kicked off its spring break Friday afternoon, falling to Columbia College 5-2 at the Koala Tennis Courts.
Maryville came out of the gates strong, picking up two wins on the doubles court early in the contest. The duo of
James Smith and
Jackson Meyer won 6-3 on the No. 1 court while
Jonathan Crane and
Kaleb Burke triumphed at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.
The Scots were not as successful on the singles court, dropping matches at one through four and securing the victory for the Koalas.
Seth Green picked up a win on the No. 5 court, taking two sets 6-1, 6-4 to give MC its first singles victory of the day.
Ben Wyrick nearly recorded another victory at No. 6, but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7-10).
Next up on the Scots' schedule is the Spring Break Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Scots will play three matches over four days, beginning with Cornell College on Sunday.
