LOOKOUT Mountain, Ga. -- Maryville men's soccer delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Wednesday night, blanking Covenant 3-0 at Scotland Yard.
The Scots wasted no time setting teh tone. In the seventh minute,
Ben Brophy opened the scoring off assists from
Ethan Denney and
Brady Hammer, giving Maryville momentum early on.
Out of halftime, Maryville doubled their lead when
Nate Riepe finished a feed from Hammer in the 51st minute. Just two minutes later, Hammer added a goal of his own on an assist from Brophy to cap the 3-0 result.
While the attack was sharp, the defense and goalkeeping was equally dominant.
Tanner Ricks recorded eight saves to earn a clean sheet, keeping Covenant off teh board despite facing 22 total shots.
With this victory, Maryville improves to 7-3-5 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play, tightening its position near the top of the league standings. Covenant drops to 7-6-3 and 4-1-0.
The Scots return home this weekend, looking to build on their momentum in their final regular season matchup against the Huntingdon Hawks at 3:30 PM.
