Second Half Stifles Scots at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Scots fell to the Tigers on Thursday night after being outscored in the second half 45 to 35. 

A dominant first quarter by the Scots left the team feeling in control, up 22-10 after a 13-2run, but the Tigers stormed back over the final 30 minutes of the game to win 76-70. 

Sewanee's Cleveland scored 34 points in the game, including shooting 5-6 on threes, proving to be a force to be reckoned with and one that the Scots had trouble with throughout the contest. 

The first quarter was a defensive masterclass by MC, holding Sewanee to only 10 points on 2-8 shooting, while forcing four turnovers. A pivotal third quarter saw the Tigers shoot 8-9 from the field for 21 points, while holding the Scots to only 13 points.

Free throws were a key deciding factor in the game, with Sewanee shooting 28 total free throws for 23 points, while the Scots only earned five points on 13 free throw attempts. 

For the game, the leading scorer for Maryville was Emily Wilson with 21 points. She also had four rebounds and three assists. Ella Haney was the leading rebounder, pulling down seven while scoring 15. 

The Scots have the next week off before traveling to Lexington, Ky., for the Transy Invite, where they will face off against Transylvania on Saturday and Muskingum on Sunday.
