Scots Dominate Wolves to Open CCS Play

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Women's basketball opened CCS play in emphatic fashion on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Wesleyan (Ga.) 89–38 at the Cooper Athletic Center to improve to 3–2 overall and 1–0 in conference play.

Maryville set the tone early, jumping out to a 28–4 lead after the first quarter behind stifling defense and efficient shooting. The Scots followed with a 30-point second quarter to take a commanding 58–16 advantage into halftime, forcing turnovers and turning them into transition opportunities throughout the opening half.

Emily Wilson led all scorers with 21 points in just 14 minutes of action, shooting 7-for-9 from the floor and knocking down four three-pointers. Maryville showcased its depth with 16 players scoring, including eight points apiece from Chloe Powell, Kendyll McCloud, and Leighan Jackson off the bench.

Defensively, the Scots limited Wesleyan to 24.1 percent shooting and forced 30 turnovers, converting those miscues into 45 points. Maryville also held a significant edge on the glass, outrebounding the Wolves 53–31, while scoring 42 points in the paint and 21 on the fast break.

Maryville continued to build its lead in the second half, maintaining control on both ends en route to the 51-point victory. The Scots will look to carry the momentum forward as CCS play continues next week.
