BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Maryville opened its trip through the Old Dominion with a 5-2 victory over Bridgewater on Thursday.

The Scots used wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions to take the doubles point. First-years
Luka Romano and
Eli Cauthorn at No. 2 blanked their Bridgewater opponents 6-0, while
Jonathan Crane and
Kaleb Burke took care of things at No. 3 with a 6-4 triumph.
Field Myatt and
Jackson Meyer almost made it a sweep in doubles before falling 7-6 (8-6).

In singles, the Scots suffered a couple of early losses at Nos. 2 and 3 before storming back. Myatt tied the match 2-2 with a three-set triumph at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (13-11). And the bottom of Maryville's deep lineup took over from there.

Crane rolled at No. 4 singles by a 6-1, 6-1 count, and
Gabriel Villalonga Serra followed with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph.
Ian Martin then prevailed in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) for the final 5-2 score line.

Maryville returns to the courts Friday at Roanoke in a 2 p.m. start. The Scots conclude their weekend swing with a Saturday morning match at Southern Virginia.
