Softball Drops Series Against Conference Leading Hawks

Huntingdon Took Down the Scots in Two Five-inning Games

MARYVILLE - The Scots fell to conference leader and #10 ranked Huntingdon on Sunday, dropping the first game 8-0 and the second 10-1 in two five-inning affairs.

Game One

MC hit only two runs in the first game, one in the bottom of the first, a Paige Dickenson single, and in the third on a Brecca Williams single to center field. Maryville managed four other base runners, walking twice and being hit by a pitch twice, none of which resulted in runs.

Starter Tia Stewart, coming off a complete game on Friday in a shutout of Asbury, tossed another complete game, but earned the loss as she surrendered eight earned runs on nine hits.

Game Two

The Scots were able to plate one run in the second game in the bottom of the fifth, on a throwing error by the first baseman after Kendall Boggs grounded out. Olivia Harris and Jada Harris were the only two players for Maryville to get hits in the game, with the first coming in the first and the second coming in the fifth. Starting Pitcher Jacey Goetziner was credited with the loss after surrendering eight runs (only four earned) in four innings pitched.

With the losses, Maryville falls to 7-15 and 1-3 in conference play, and will turn around to face Centre on Monday in another doubleheader scheduled for 3 & 5 PM.

The Hawks of Huntingdon are now riding a nine game winning streak, and are 21-2. Their only losses on the year came in the NFCA Leadoff Classic, once against #1 East Texas Baptist 8-3  and the other against #7 Redlands 9-5.
