CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Maryville lost its Collegiate Conference of the South opener to defending champion Covenant 7-0 Wednesday night. The match took place at The McCallie School.
Maryville's best chance for a match win was delivered by
Jonathan Crane at No. 5 singles. Crane took his Covenant opponent to a 7-5, 6-2 score line before falling.
Gabriel Villalonga Serra lost 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 singles for the next closest result in the overall match.
In doubles, Covenant swept all three matches. Maryville at No. 2 with Crane and
Jackson Meyer lost 6-2, and at No. 3 with
Eli Cauthorn and
Kaleb Burke also fell by a 6-2 count.
Maryville head coach
Doug Corbett has four matches lined up in Orlando for his squad during its Spring Break swing. The Scots are taking on Cornell College of Iowa on Sunday, Hampden-Sydney of Virginia on Monday, Northwestern-St. Paul of Minnesota on Tuesday and Otterbein of Ohio on Wednesday, March 5.
