Maryville Scraps but Falls 4-0 to Top-Seeded Piedmont

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Maryville chased 21-win Piedmont all over the court here Friday but ultimately fell 4-0 in the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament Semifinals.

Elizabeth Shwaiko and Calliana Kondolios were leading 4-3 at No. 1 doubles when the doubles point was clinched, and Jasmine Muecke grabbed a 6-1 opening set win at No. 4 singles and was 3-3 in the third set when the overall match concluded.

Kondolios came back at No. 2 singles and played to a 7-5, 6-4 defeat that was the clinching point, while Shwaiko played her No. 1 singles opponent to a 6-3, 6-2 defeat. Alyssa Smith lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles in the other match that reached a conclusion.

"Incredibly proud of the effort and performance, on an emotional day with three of our women playing in their final match," Maryville head coach Doug Corbett said. "Our team fought so well by playing with an aggressive and confident mindset. Absolutely toe to toe versus a regionally ranked opponent from start to finish. Amazing to see how far we have come with this group, so the ladies should be very proud of today and their careers!"

Maryville's season ends at 10-6, while Piedmont improves to 21-2. The Lions play in Saturday's championship match against Asbury (12-4), which defeated Huntingdon 4-0.
