Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener

Fiery Offensive Effort Falls Short on Day One

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The chances were there, but the Scots weren't able to capitalize in their 0-3 loss to Farmingdale State to open the season.

FSC Scored in the 16th minute to take the 1-0 lead, which would be the only score of the first half. The Rams would go on to score twice in the first eight minutes of the second half, gaining their 3-0 lead. The final 37 minutes of the game were a back-and-forth affair, with both teams putting forth valiant efforts.

MC was aggressive on the offensive side of things throughout the game, out shooting the Rams 11-9, and 5-4 in shots on goal (along with eight corner kicks compared to just 1 from FSC).

Senior Hannah Smoot led the offensive effort for the Scots, taking five shots and aiming three perfectly in position to score. Smoot has scored 27 goals in her Maryville career and will absolutely get hers this season. Elle Fair also put forth a formidable effort on that end, getting two shots off and one being on goal in 71 minutes played.

The defensive effort by the Scots doesn't need to be forgotten, with the defensive front averaging 70 minutes played across the group of defenders consisting of Olivia Norris, Addison Kantor, Elle Fair, and Gabbie Halliburton

The Scots will have a quick turnaround as they will face Spalding tomorrow (8/30) at 4 PM at home.
