Hornets Take Down Scots

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville College battled hard at the MC Soccer Complex in front of a supportive home crowd, showing resilience and plenty of bright moments in a tough contest against Lynchburg.

The Scots matched their opponent in total shots (12-11) and corner kicks (8-6), creating consistent pressure throughout the match.

A highlight came in the 27th minute when Gabbie Halliburton found the back of the net off a smart assist from Hannah Smoot, giving the home side well-earned momentum. Smoot led the attack with three shots, while contributions from Avery Brown and Katie Corley kept Lynchburg's defense busy. In goal, Trinity Atkinson stood tall with five key saves against a relentless Lynchburg offense. Defender Elle Fair played a complete 90-minute match, showcasing her speed and agility while chasing and defending against the Hornet attack.

While the final score favored Lynchburg 4-1, the Scots showed strong energy, improved offensive creativity, and a willingness to fight for every ball. With this performance, Maryville continues to build chemistry and confidence as they move forward in the season. The Scots will next play on September 21st against Piedmont.
