MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Maryville College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Sewanee Tuesday evening at the MC Soccer Complex, moving to 3-4-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The Scots created several opportunities in the opening half, putting four shots toward goal while holding Sewanee scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Ben Brophy and Ethan Denney each recorded a shot on target in the first half, but Sewanee turned away both attempts to keep the match scoreless at halftime.

Maryville continued to battle after the break but faced an uphill challenge after receiving a red card in the 53rd minute. Despite playing a man down, the Scots continued to compete defensively as goalkeeper Tanner Ricks made multiple saves to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard.

Sewanee eventually broke through in the 69th minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

The Scots looked to respond in the closing stages, but Sewanee held on to secure the victory. Denney led Maryville with two shots, including one on goal, while Brophy added a shot on target. Ricks finished with three saves in 90 minutes of action.

Maryville will look to bounce back in its next match on Friday, October 16, where the Scots will take on the Colonels of Centre.
