Softball Dominates Against Lyon and Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Maryville Scots wrapped up their Sunday slate in Memphis with an offensive outburst and a late-game rally, rolling past Lyon in dominant fashion before outlasting Rhodes in a back-and-forth battle.

Scots Explode for 20 Runs Behind 17-Hit Performance

Maryville wasted little time setting the tone in the opener, plating three runs in the first and erupting for 11 in the third inning to put the game out of reach.

After Lyon answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, the Scots responded with one of their most explosive innings of the season. Maryville sent 16 batters to the plate in the third, collecting seven hits and capitalizing on free passes to stretch the lead to 14-2.

Catie Zani powered the offense, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored. Her four-run blast highlighted the big inning. Kaylee Peyret added a 4-for-5 performance with three RBIs, while Olivia Harris went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Emma Blankenship contributed a triple and drove in two, and Desiree Nance added two hits and two RBIs.

Maryville totaled 17 hits and drew nine walks in the win.

In the circle, Whitney Carr picked up the victory, allowing just one hit and two runs (one earned) over three innings. Watiyeli Taylor closed it out with two scoreless frames as the Scots secured the run-rule result.

Taylor's Late Triple Lifts Scots in Comeback Thriller

The second game required resilience.

Rhodes grabbed an early lead, but Maryville answered in the third as Peyret doubled into scoring position and Nance delivered an RBI double to even things. An inning later, Zani broke things open with a three-run homer to left-center, giving the Scots a three-run cushion.

Rhodes countered with a five-run fourth to swing momentum back in its favor, setting up a tense finish.

Maryville responded again in the sixth. After Peyret and Nance worked their way aboard and executed a double steal, Tate Romero roped a two-run double to left-center to knot the game at 7-7.

The decisive moment came in the seventh. With runners aboard, Tomi Taylor drove a bases-clearing triple to center field, pushing the Scots back in front for good and sealing the hard-fought victory.

Zani finished with four RBIs, while Taylor drove in three. Blankenship collected three hits and scored twice, and Peyret reached base four times and crossed the plate three times.

In the circle, Tia Stewart and Sydney Dickinson combined to hold Rhodes scoreless over the final three innings, allowing Maryville to close out the weekend with a strong bounce-back performance.
