MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville men's tennis played against Hastings College on March 10th, despite some strange circumstances due to weather conditions that ultimately led to the Scots canceling their match against Wittenberg. In a match that needed to be finished quickly, Maryville delivered with a 4-0 victory in one hour and 12 minutes.
Doubles started quickly, with a 14 minute 6-0 win from the reunited pair of Jackson Meyer and Field Myatt at the #2 position. A couple minutes after them, #3 duo Sergio Balsamo and Eli Cauthorn made their debut on the season with a confident 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point.
Moving into singles quickly, everyone got off to a strong start. #2 singles Grant Price and #6 singles Ian Martin both won their first sets 6-0, #3 singles Steven Fitzsimmons won his first set 6-1, and #1 singles James Smith and #4 singles Eric Vornhagen won their first sets with a 6-2 scoreline. The dominating style of play continued, with Price winning his match 6-0 6-2 to put the Scots up 2-0. Quickly after that, Fitzsimmons capped his match off with a 6-1 6-1 victory, and Vornhagen clinched the match for the Scots, winning his match 6-2 6-0, wrapping up the affair in 72 total minutes.
The next match for the Scots is a highly anticipated conference matchup against Asbury University. They'll face off at home on March 12th, at 3:30 p.m., with Maryville eager to even the score between the two schools.
