Scots Win In Preparation for CCS Competition

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville's men's tennis team delivered a convincing bounceback win against Brevard College on April 7th. This marks the 3rd straight win for the Scots against the Tornadoes, and pushes the Scots to 8-6 on the year. 

Doubles was the beginning of the domination for the Scots. #3 pair Eli Cauthorn and Grant Price quickly put the Scots on the board, cruising to a 6-1 win in 20 minutes. Three minutes later, #2 pair Jackson Meyer and Field Myatt secured the doubles point for the Scots, winning their match 6-2 to make the score 1-0. #1 pair Steven Fitzsimmons and James Smith also added another win to sweep the doubles matches, winning 6-3 and pushing the Scots' good momentum into the singles. 

Singles started with lightning quick matches, just like doubles. Eric Vornhagen pushed the Scots to 2-0 in 48 minutes, steamrolling his opponent 6-0, 6-1 at the #5 singles position. Just one minute later, Fitzsimmons blitzed to a 6-1, 6-2 win at the #4 singles slot. Two minutes after him, Smith secured a clinch at the #1 singles position, winning in dominant fashion with a 6-1, 6-1 scoreline to secure the win for the Scots. 

The matches that followed were quick, but also displayed high levels of tennis and entertainment alike. Price continues his great season by winning 6-1, 6-0 at the #2 singles position, bringing him to 12 wins on the season and currently possessing a nine match win streak. Then, #6 singles player Gabriel Villalonga Serra displayed confidence throughout his match, leading to a 6-3, 6-2 win. Finally, Myatt took the scenic route to win his entertaining match 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 10-1 at the #3 singles slot, completing the sweep for the Scots. 

This win will prove to be important for the Scots as they head into yet another pivital conference matchup, this one being against Piedmont University. The match will be on April 10th, starting at 3 p.m.
