DEMOREST, Ga. – The Maryville College men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2026 season on Wednesday evening, defeating former CCS opponent Piedmont University, 2-1.

The Scots recorded 14 shots throughout the match, with eight different players registering an attempt. Brady Hammer and Ben Brophy each found the back of the net, while Tanner Ricks made five saves in goal. Maryville also drew nine fouls and earned four corner kicks.

The first half started slowly, with neither team able to find much momentum through the opening 15 minutes. A saved shot from Ryan Buie led to a corner kick for the Scots, and Maryville capitalized shortly after. At the 16:36 mark, B. Hammer fired a shot past the Piedmont defense to give the Scots the early 1-0 advantage.

Ethan Denney followed with a shot of his own just minutes later, while Case fired two consecutive attempts that were stopped by the Lions. Freshman Dane Hammer added another opportunity with the first shot of his collegiate career. Piedmont earned a corner kick in the final minutes of the half, but the Scots held on to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Maryville came out firing in the second half, with Landon Yurisic recording the first shot of the period. In the 56th minute, the 2025 CCS Rookie and Player of the Year connected once again, as Brophy found the back of the net off an assist from B. Hammer to extend the Scots' lead to 2-0.

Less than a minute later, Piedmont converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Lions continued to pressure the Scots, but Ricks and the Maryville defense held strong to preserve the lead. Maryville added two more shots in the closing minutes and held on to secure its first victory of the season, 2-1.

The Scots return to action on Friday, September 25, at 1 p.m., when they travel to Warren Wilson for their rescheduled matchup.
