MARYVILLE, TENN. – The Maryville Men's Soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against Wilmington on Sunday afternoon at the MC Soccer Complex, moving to 0-0-2 on the early season.

The Scots put together a strong defensive effort from start to finish, with goalkeeper Tanner Ricks making 12 saves in his second consecutive 90-minute performance. The Maryville defense and midfield helped keep the Fighting Quakers off the scoreboard while the Scots continued to create opportunities of their own.

Maryville generated its first scoring opportunity in the 12th minute when freshman Ryan Buie put a shot on goal. The Scots continued to work their way into the attacking third throughout the opening half, with Brady Hammer, Ethan Denney, Andrew Knight and Will Gallaher each recording an attempt. Denney put a shot on frame in the 43rd minute, while Knight and Gallaher added late opportunities before the halftime whistle.

The Scots came out of halftime with increased pressure, earning three corner kicks within the opening six minutes. Hammer and Ben Brophy each registered attempts early in the half, with Brophy putting a shot on goal in the 50th minute. Maryville continued to attack, earning five corner kicks in the second half and six for the match.

Maryville's defensive unit continued to stand strong as the match progressed, with the Scots battling through the midfield and limiting dangerous opportunities. Ricks made several key saves throughout the second half, while the defensive group in front of him helped Maryville preserve the shutout for the second consecutive match.

The Scots continued to threaten in the final 15 minutes. Brady Hammer forced a save in the 84th minute before Denney and Jonathan Case each recorded shots late in the match. Case's attempt in the 87th minute was saved as Maryville continued searching for the breakthrough.

Maryville finished the afternoon with 14 shots, including six on goal, while earning six corner kicks. The Scots' defensive effort ultimately secured another clean sheet as the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Ricks finished with 12 saves in the shutout, while the Scots' defenders and midfielders helped maintain a scoreless result for the second straight match to open the 2026 campaign.

The Scot are back in action Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 PM in Berea, Kentucky.
