David Martin

David Martin

David Martin serves the Maryville College Athletics Department as an assistant football coach working with tight ends. He also is the Scots' recruiting coordinator. Martin joined the Scots in 2015.

In 2016, Logan Winders earned All-USA South honors as a tight end under Martin's leadership after grabbing 33 passes for 430 yards and five touchdowns. Terry Stewart earned All-Conference honors in 2018 following Martin's development and then tallied his second-consecutive All-Conference bid in 2019 as a senior.

An 11-year NFL veteran who played collegiately at Tennessee, Martin spent his professional career with the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills after being a sixth-round draft selection in 2001. He accumulated 1,562 career receiving yards on 159 catches, averaging 9.8 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns.

Martin was a key contributor to the success of the Tennessee Volunteers football program from 1997-2000. He helped Tennessee earn a pair of SEC championships, compete in three BCS Bowl games, claim the very first BCS National Championship in 1998.

Martin returned to Tennessee after his professional playing career to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology degree in 2012.

Upon graduation, he served as the wide receiver coach and passing game coordinator for Knoxville Central High School during the 2014 and 2015 playing seasons.

Martin is married to the former Kameisha Bennett of Dayton, Ohio. She was a five-time All-America track and field star at Tennessee and went on to run professionally. Among her honors was selection to the Penn Relays Wall of Fame and then induction into the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. Their sons, Darius and Devyn, both play basketball. Darius plays right here at Maryville College and Devin plays at West High School in Knoxville.
