Jason Emert joined the Fighting Scots football program in 2018 as Special Teams Coordinator, as he works primarily with the kickers and punters.
Following the 2019 season, Emert aided place kicker Ian Hubbs to a USA South First Team All-Conference bid as the Scots' primary kicker. Under Emert's direction, Hubbs kicked a perfect 8-of-8 on field goals with a long of 44 yards. The senior went 19-of-21 on extra points, while punting 59 times with a 34.1 yard average.
In college, Emert played for renowned coach Jerry Kill at Southern Illinois University. A two-year letterman, he started at punter for the Salukis. He was part of three conference championship teams and four NCAA Division I-AA playoff appearances. At SIU, Emert learned his special teams philosophy from coach Jay Sawvel. And, while earning his masters in business administration, Emert served as a graduate assistant for the University of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
Emert, an attorney, has remained active in athletics over the years formerly working as a NFL and CFL agent, then as a consultant to collegiate athletic departments and sports organizations. He serves as the chair of the Board of Advisors for the National Sports & Entertainment Law Society and has tutored high school kickers and punters. Emert was named to the Knoxville News Sentinel's "40 under 40" list in early 2020.
A native of Maryville, Tennessee, Emert played on two football state championship teams and one wrestling regional championship team at Maryville High School. He and his wife, Lauren, reside in Blount County and are active in various community activities and organizations.
