Brittney Washington

Maryville College Director of Athletics Sara Quatrocky announced in July 2022 the hire of Brittney Washington to the position of Assistant Athletics Director for Student Excellence. She was promoted in August 2023 to Senior Associate Athletics Director.

Her position was an addition to the Maryville Athletics administration staff, and Washington in a short time made quite the impression on her new campus. So much so that Maryville College used a recently awarded NCAA Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant to promote her.

“Brittney came to Maryville and hit the ground running,” Quatrocky said. “She immediately made a positive impact in the lives of our student-athletes by creating strong partnerships on campus, and she was able to navigate her relationships to gain resources to help aid student-athlete success.

“Anytime we can promote and secure a rising star in this industry, it’s important to do so. There are so many times we can lose great employees, and with this grant it allows us to help Brittney continue her growth in athletic administration right here at Maryville College.”

Serving on President’s Cabinet
In conjunction with her latest promotion, Washington was asked to serve on President Bryan F. Coker’s Cabinet until a new Staff Council Chair was elected. She participated in the Maryville College President’s Cabinet retreat as well as other Cabinet meetings.

“I’m extremely thankful to be awarded the NCAA Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant,” Washington said. “I’m so appreciative to work with such great leadership in Dr. Coker and Sara Quatrocky, who continue to help shape and develop me within my role.

“Closing out my first year here at Maryville has been nothing short of amazing. I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with an exceptional group of student-athletes and have been able to help foster relationships across campus to promote their success. I look forward to our continued success!”

The Simpsonville, South Carolina, native has created academic excellence programming, a new-look summer orientation in conjunction with admissions and student affairs, is planning fall new student orientation for all students, and already helped increased retention in the student-athlete population.

“Brittney is a deeply dedicated, hardworking staff member who gets things done,” said President Coker, who recently was elected to the NCAA Division III Presidents Council. “She is driven by an unwavering commitment to student-athletes and their success in all facets of campus life.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Brittney as a member of our campus community, and I look forward to seeing all she will accomplish in this expanded role.”

As part of her increased responsibilities, Washington now serves as sport supervisor for eight varsity sports: volleyball, women’s basketball, both cross country teams, both tennis teams and both track and field squads. As a sport supervisor she will assist coaches in meeting their yearly admission goals, plan and manage budgets, and initiate increased efforts in student-athlete welfare. She will also take over the department’s NCAA, Collegiate Conference of the South, USA South and institutional compliance efforts.

Washington arrived after spending three years at USA South member Pfeiffer University. She served as a senior admissions counselor and athletics liaison in her first year before being promoted in June 2020 to Associate Director of Admission/Athletic Liaison. Washington taught as an adjunct faculty member and mentored student-athletes in the first-year transition to college. She also served as the advisor for the People of Color and Alliances Club.

Before that, Washington spent two seasons at Furman University as director of women’s basketball operations. She managed the daily operations for the Paladins, who over those two campaigns combined to go 37-28 and appear in the Women’s NIT and Women’s Basketball Invitational.

First Worked with Quatrocky at Lynn
Washington and Quatrocky worked together at Lynn University from 2015-17, when Washington was a graduate assistant coach on the women’s basketball staff and Quatrocky was an assistant athletics director.

She played four years of collegiate basketball at Pfeiffer and was a two-year team captain. Washington claimed a spot on the 2015 Dean’s List and took home both the Scholar-Athlete Award and Student Leadership Service Award during her senior year.

She spent four years on the Pfeiffer Student-Athlete Advisory Council and was the Conference Carolinas representative in the 2015 WBCA So You Want to Be a Coach Program.
